Stop AAPI Hate Condemns ICE’s Deadly Shootings of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo and Johan Sebastian Guerrero

NATIONWIDE – We are heartbroken and beyond outraged by ICE’s deadly shootings of two people within the past week. 52-year-old Lorenzo Salgado Araujo and 26-year-old Johan Sebastian Guerrero were both fathers working hard to support their families, and they did not deserve to have their lives taken from them – period.

ICE is completely out of control. Federal immigration agents have now killed 11 people during encounters since January 2025. These deaths are not isolated incidents – they are the result of deliberate political choices. The Trump regime has intentionally allowed federal agents to act violently and with impunity, even encouraging racial profiling and excessive force. And instead of holding ICE accountable for their racism and atrocities, the GOP-controlled Congress has granted immigration agencies a staggering $240,000,000,000 ($240 BILLION) to expand operations – a budget larger than most of the world’s militaries.

No federal agency with the power to use force should be allowed to operate without transparency and accountability like ICE has. No one is truly safe if we let the government act violently and recklessly without consequences. We must elect leaders who will do their jobs and hold ICE accountable. And we must loudly refuse to accept a future where immigrants and people of color are met with fear and violence instead of dignity and humanity.

We honor the lives of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo and Johan Sebastian Guerrero and join their loved ones in calling for thorough, transparent, and independent investigations into the fatal shootings.
