Hate Can’t Stop Us

For generations, Asian Americans and Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities have fought for safety and equality in the face of widespread racism and xenophobia. And since our founding in 2020, Stop AAPI Hate has built on this legacy of resistance by tackling the root causes of anti-AAPI hate in all its forms – from discriminatory policies to targeted violence. We leverage the power of data and research, policy change, grassroots advocacy, and storytelling to raise awareness about anti-AAPI hate and empower everyday people to join us in the fight for a safer, more just future for all.

How We Work

Stop AAPI Hate and Stop AAPI Hate Action are two distinct groups with a shared commitment to racial justice and multiracial democracy.

Stop AAPI Hate 501(c)(3) is dedicated to exposing and combating racism and discrimination against Asian Americans and Pacific Islander (AAPI) people in the U.S. We document and research anti-AAPI hate acts, educate the public about AAPI experiences, support survivors, and advocate for policies that allow AAPI communities to thrive.

Stop AAPI Hate Action 501(c)(4) helps Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders transform their individual outrage into collective action. We empower and mobilize everyday people across the country to demand better representation across government and build lasting political power for AAPI communities.

How we drive change:
  • We operate the nation’s largest reporting center for anti-AAPI hate acts and conduct independent research
  • We champion local and federal policies that keep AAPI communities safe from targeted hate
  • We leverage various forms of media to uplift AAPI voices and counter racist narratives
  • We lead programs to heal and empower survivors of hate
How we drive change:
  • We drive campaigns to increase AAPI voter turnout and shape electoral outcomes
  • We organize people to take concrete actions that hold elected leaders accountable, protect our civil rights, and strengthen the nation’s multiracial democracy

Our History

Stop AAPI Hate was founded on March 19, 2020 when community leaders from AAPI Equity Alliance, Chinese for Affirmative Action, and the Asian American Studies Department at San Francisco State University joined forces in response to surging anti-Asian racism during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Together, they launched an online reporting center to give people across the country a simple and confidential way to report acts of anti-AAPI hate. They called the project “Stop AAPI Hate”.

Today, Stop AAPI Hate is more than just a reporting center. We’re a national coalition of researchers, organizers, and activists working together to confront racism, xenophobia, and other forms of anti-AA/PI hate.

Our Impact

In just a few short years, Stop AAPI Hate has mobilized a broad, engaged movement to drive collective action. Together, we have passed critical legislation; won millions of dollars in public investments for local communities; and raised unprecedented awareness of anti-AA/PI racism and xenophobia. And we’re just getting started.
