Where does the data come from?
The data is provided by ICE in response to regular Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests filed by the Deportation Data Project (DDP). We use DDP’s processed datasets for our own analyses.

How often will the tracker be updated?
Our goal is to update the tracker as soon as new data becomes available. Our tracker uses datasets from the Deportation Data Project (DDP) at UC Berkeley and UCLA. DDP requests data from ICE through Freedom of Information Act (FOIA requests), and new releases of data depend on ICE responding to these requests which they do not do on a regular basis.
We will continue updating the tracker as new data become available — and working with communities to understand what the numbers mean.

We apply the Deportation Data Project’s trusted methodology, with some adaptations to fit the tracker’s specific focus. Full details on sources and methodology are available on the tracker’s “About” page.
