Stop AAPI Hate Calls Out Congress for Approving $70 Billion to Expand Trump’s Mass Deportation Campaign

Stop AAPI Hate condemns Congress’ approval of an additional $70 billion in funding for ICE and Border Patrol: the same agencies that are terrorizing our communities, racially profiling people of color, violating our constitutional rights, and detaining immigrant families in overcrowded and abusive prisons. Instead of demanding accountability, Congress has chosen to dramatically expand ICE and Border Patrol’s power and reach. And the consequences for immigrant communities of color will be devastating.

For the past 18 months, we have watched in horror as ICE has ruthlessly targeted Asians and Pacific Islanders. Under the Trump administration, ICE arrests of Asian people have increased by 600% and arrests of Pacific Islander people have increased 22% compared to the Biden administration.

This isn’t just about immigration either. Trump’s mass deportation operation is part of a broader effort to normalize fear, racism and exclusion — and to make the U.S. an increasingly hostile place for communities of color, regardless of citizenship or immigration status.

Today’s vote enables the Trump administration to do just that by funneling taxpayer dollars into immigration enforcement and mass incarceration when what we need is public investment in housing, healthcare, and education.

The path forward is clear: We must continue organizing to shift the balance of power and elect leaders who will defend civil rights, uphold democratic values and stand against Trump’s racist, anti-immigrant agenda.
