Turning A Moment Into A Movement: 2021 – 2022 Impact Report
Our report looks back on the beginnings of Stop AAPI Hate and how we turned a simple reporting form into a national coalition.
About
On March 19, 2020, we launched the Stop AAPI Hate reporting center to track emerging acts of anti-Asian and Pacific Islander hate. In the two years that followed, our coalition did more than document the rising tide of racism and discrimination facing our communities. We also galvanized a national movement to prevent and address hate in all of its forms. This report captures Stop AAPI Hate’s top-level accomplishments in 2021 and 2022 — from data and research to legislative advocacy and more.
Major Achievements
From 2021 to 2022, the Stop AAPI Hate coalition achieved enormous impact. Together, we:
- Shifted attitudes and knowledge in the U.S. population that anti-AAPI hate is a problem.
- Helped lead the passage of $166.5 million API Equity Budget in California to support all communities affected by hate.
- Released a 50-state survey documenting hundreds of state, federal, county, and municipal resolutions passed in opposition to anti-AAPI racism.
- Issued 20 reports focused on mental health, women, youth, specific geographic areas, and national trends.
- Testified to Congress, the White House, United Nations, and World Bank.
- Provided analysis and policy recommendations to the federal government.
- Directed funding and resources to victims and survivors of hate throughout the U.S.
- Organized youth through the Stop AAPI Hate Youth Campaign to bring attention to school safety measures.
